Stream temperature updates

The primary objective of sampling streams is to identify the variables influencing stream temperature.

An analysis of the collected data revealed that stream temperature is effected by multiple factors, with groundwater influence emerging as the most significant. Additional variables impacting stream temperature include elevation, canopy cover, solar aspect, stream gradient, stream order, and stream width. While each of these factors may appear minor, when combined, they have a significant influence on temperature variability.

Utilizing this data, a geospatial stream temperature prediction model has been developed to estimate the future daily average temperatures of streams.IDEQ is grateful to all volunteers and staff who help collect this valuable information. Their dedication makes this work possible and helps us protect our local waters for everyone.
